To make matters worse the country is facing starvation and people are dying; in many parts of Zambia people are eating what they have never eaten before ... soft tree leaves and tree roots.
In most cases where the breadwinner is incarcerated in prison, the family is left with no means of support. It is left for other family members to take responsibility for their care ... sometimes this can have very tragic results where the means are, so often, not sufficient.
...Victor's 16 year old daughter died on May 1st 2004 from a vitamin deficiency called beri-beri. This would not be heard of in the UK; it is an illness caused by long term malnutrition ... to hear of deaths like this is heartbreaking.
Victor's family are being cared for by his sister, his wife having abandonned the family after his imprisonment. We are sending money, clothes, shoes and other basic needs like toiletries to the family of Victor, in the hope that we can alleviate some of their suffering. There are 3 other children : twins of 10 years old ( a boy and a girl) and a younger girl of 5 years old. The help that is being sent to them is to enable them to become self-sufficient ... to give them the means to buy seed that they may grow the food (maize) they need and assist in setting up a little business where thay can generate their own income.
But they need so much more help ... Victor has requested that we help with school fees, because his children are so far behind with their schooling. His desire is for his children to be admitted to a Mission school ... with your help we can make these desires possible and for so many others who are waiting.
Bibles and bible studies have been requested as they are spiritually hungry also ... if you can help provide the funds for these, our contact in Lusaka, Zambia will go into the prison with them. There is a opportunity to send ministry tapes alongside these as we are able to provide radio/cassette players.
